Mayoral Appointment & Commission Vacancy

On July 13, 2020 a meeting was held to appoint a new Mayor for the City of Bellemeade.  I presented myself as a candidate and was unanimously selected to fill the role for the remainder of 2020.

I am James Martin and I’ve lived in Bellemeade since 2014.  I began serving on the Commission in September 2019 and I have been responsible for public safety and code compliance during that time.  My wife and I have 5 children (ages 5 to 13) and my wife is an elementary school librarian at Portland Christian School on Westport Road.  I am a civil litigator in the firm Steptoe & Johnson PLLC, which is located just a stone’s throw away in the Steel Technologies building on Hurstbourne Parkway.

The commissioners have recently simplified and clarified our city ordinances and established clearer mechanisms for how the city commission functions and communicates. We did this to encourage community involvement in the commission and make it as easy as possible for residents to serve on the commission.

We need your participation.  My appointment to Mayor has left us one Commissioner short of a full Commission.  We now have 30 days to appoint and swear in a new Commissioner.  We intend to do this at our next regular city meeting on August 10, 2020. We anticipate that this meeting will be held at the Steel Technologies Building since our regular meeting location at the NE Regional Library will most likely remain closed.  If you are interested, please reach out to me at  Mayor@bellemeade-ky.gov (or text/phone at 502-489-0827).  Being part of the commission is a great opportunity to learn about local government and be involved in your community. It is also a good experience builder and a chance to get to know people in the city and learn how Metro and State Government work.

Thank you and please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.

Mayor James Martin
